The Rise of K-Animation, the Final Piece of the K-Content Puzzle
TREN · 2026.02.01
Animation is rapidly emerging as the next growth engine of K-content, following the global success of K-food, K-beauty, and Webcomics. Recently, “The King of Kings” a biblical animation released in North America, surpassed the local box office revenue of Bong Joon-ho’s “Parasite” At the same time, “Magic Candies” based on the original work by creator Baek Hee-na and produced by Japan’s leading animation studio, Toei Animation, was named a finalist for Best Animated Short Film at this year’s Academy Awards. Once overlooked in the global market, K-animation is now proving its potential for growth through these remarkable achievements.

As part of its business expansion efforts, WEBTOON has also leveraged well-known IPs such as Noblesse and Tower of God to produce a wide range of animations. In addition to partnering with top studios in Japan, the powerhouse of animations, WEBTOON is also working closely with its affiliates and leading production companies in Korea to broaden the scope of the K-animation industry.
