As global attention on the webcomics industry continues to grow, various sectors of society are stepping up to support the sustainable development of the webcomics. To encourage investment in the K-content industry, the government plans to designate and foster webcomis, web novels, dramas, and films with strong global potential as strategic industries.

In particular, reflecting the recent trend of webcomics and web novels emerging as key IP sources for screen adaptations, legislation is underway to expand existing tax incentives, currently limited to video content, to include the broader K-content sector.

Additionally, to further elevate the status of the webcomics industry, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Creative Content Agency will host the second “WORLD WEBTOON FESTIVAL” and “WORLD WEBTOON AWARDS” following their launch last year.

Furthermore, protections for creators’ rights are being strengthened. The Fair Trade Commission recently conducted a comprehensive review of terms and conditions used by content-related businesses and corrected unfair clauses in copyright contracts.

To ensure that creators’ voices are reflected in the policymaking process, the Creators’ Policy Council, comprised of creators and rights organizations from key sectors, has been launched and is expected to drive meaningful, practical changes across the industry.

​

Looking ahead, these efforts are expected to lay the foundation for a more transparent production and distribution of

K-content, creating a safer environment in which creators can thrive.
